PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (PVCFC) has cooperated with the Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute (CLRRI), Soc Trang Plant Protection and Cultivation Sub-department to develop a demonstration model of new rice varieties and advanced rice cultivation process at My Duc Agricultural Cooperative (Soc Trang), which has brought initial results and gradually changed the old production thinking.
Proactive adaptation to climate change
From the beginning of the year to May 2020, the program was implemented on a 40ha rice field at My Duc Agricultural Cooperative (Soc Trang), with more than 20 households participating. As a result, PVCFC not only collaborates with the Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute to implement a model, using new technical innovation in advanced rice farming to achieve high productivity and quality in the national rice product program, but it is also a supplier of a set of NPK Ca Mau products, including N46.Plus, N.Humate TE; Urea Bio; NPK Ca Mau; DAP Ca Mau; and Potassium Ca Mau with an efficient fertilization process.
PVCFC sent technical staff to directly instruct farmers on how to use fertilizers effectively (applying in the proper dosage to save fertilizer and still achieve high yield); coordinated with Soc Trang Plant Protection and Cultivation Sub-department to regularly check the salinity and advise farmers on the right time to take water into the fields. This is a crucial work in the peak salinity period in the Mekong Delta region. In addition, during the dry period, the program also applied AWD (alternative wetting and drying).
Shared concerns regarding living water with farmers in saline areas.
PVCFC has recently introduced a number of programs to assist people before and during the salinity period, in addition to companion programs. PVCFC has worked with local authorities and agents to distribute hundreds of 500-liter water tanks to the 6 provinces/cities most affected by the salinity period, including Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau, in order to alleviate people's concerns and hardships, contributing to sharing the difficulties not only in farming but also in daily life of farmers who have been severely affected by salinity and pandemic on a large scale.
Furthermore, PVCFC is actively developing more programs such as promotions, assisting people in re-investing after the salinity period, preparing for the next crop to be more favorable, ensuring "Pearls of Golden Crops" always accompany farmers to have high-yield crops, and working with the entire country to overcome challenges caused by the pandemic, ensure food security, and move towards a sustainable Vietnamese agriculture in the future.
