NPK Ca Mau – Boost crop productivity and save costs for farmers

In the Winter-Spring crop 2021-2022, Mr. Huynh Van Sang (Tan Thanh Hamlet, Ta Danh Commune, Tri Ton District) decided to participate in the demonstration model of cultivating 0.3ha of rice with Ca Mau Gold NPK 18-8-18 fertilizer. Particularly, in his demonstration model, Mr. Sang was guided by PVCFC’s agricultural engineers with new farming methods such as: Using the amount of sowing seed of about 150 kg/ha, 50 kg/ha less than the traditional method, the amount of fertilizer less than 100 kg/ha and applying the guided fertilizing cycles corresponding to growth and development stages such as: tillering, earing, blossoming, etc.

As a result, the rice yield of the demonstration field reached an average of 8.34 tons/ha, an increase of 400 kg/ha and a profit of approximately 25.57 million VND/ha, 4 million VND/ha higher than the previous traditional farming method of Mr. Sang.

Mr. Sang expressed his excitement, sharing, "I am really thrilled because farming under PVCFC's technicians’ guidance decreases investment expenses and boosts profits." As a result, he has opted to use the NPK Ca Mau based technical model for all 3ha of rice in the upcoming crops.

According to Mr. Lam Van Thong - Head of Market Solutions Department of PVCFC, the farming secret mentioned by Mr. Huynh Van Sang is the 4-application formula/rice crop.

Accordingly, in the 1^st time (approximately 8 days after sowing), apply 30kg of Ca Mau Urea and 20kg of DAP for 1ha of rice. In the 2^nd time (approximately 18 days after sowing), apply 40kg of NPK Ca Mau (or N46.Plus/Urea Bio Ca Mau depending on the soil condition) and 70kg of DAP (18-46). In the 3^rd time (approximately 28 days after sowing), apply 80kg of NPK Ca Mau 18-8-18; and in the 4^thtime (approximately 41 days after sowing), apply 150kg of NPK Ca Mau 18-8-18.

When compared to the traditional method, this fertilizer formula saves 2 times of application (the traditional farming methods would require 6 times of fertilizer application on the 48^th and 71^st days after sowing). At the same time, this method requires 100 kg/ha less fertilizer than traditional farming methods.

Leaders of Plant Protection Department and representatives of PVCFC inspected rice fields with farmers

Mr. Huynh Tan Dat remarked on NPK Ca Mau’s efficiency, Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department (MARD), the model is effective in terms of cost savings and reducing the number of times fertilizer is applied; however, fertilizers must be applied at the appropriate time to fully satisfy nutritional demand of rice plants during tillering, earing, flowering, and seed raising.

"Observations show that the rice grains in the model fields are firmer, rounder, lustrous, and exquisite than those in the control fields." This helps to ensure rice grain yield and quality. Not to mention, the peeling process demonstrates that the rice grains are not broken or fractured”, Mr. Dat added.

According to Mr. Dat, based on the effectiveness of the model, particularly the PVCFC fertilization process, we recommend that the locality coordinate with the enterprise's technical staff and scientists to widely apply this model for farmers, assisting them in improving farming efficiency beginning with the upcoming crops, etc.
