On 20 November, the Contest was opened at PetroVietnam Manpower Training College (PVMTC), Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province. The participants of this opening ceremony included Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Deputy chairman of People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province; Mr. Do Chi Thanh, Deputy general director of PVN, Head of Organizing Committee; Mr. Ngo Thuong San, Chairman of Vietnam Petroleum Association; Mr. Nguyen Manh Kha, Deputy chairman of Vietnam National Union of Oil and Gas Workers; Ms. Vu Thi Thu Huong, Secretary of Youth Union of the Group. 

Mr. Do Chi Thanh gave the opening speech at the Contest

At the ceremony, the representative of host organization, Mr. Vu Duy Hao, the Rector of PVMTC, Deputy Head of Standing Committee, Contest Organizing Committee stated that the Contest of this year was organized in 5 days from 20 November – 24 November at two facilities of PVMTC at Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province with 191 contestants from 12 member units directly under PVN, they would compete in 12 professions: Operating petroleum drilling equipment, Operating refinery oil plant, Welding, Assembling, Industrial electronics, Operating thermal power plant, Automation, Turning, Graphic design, Operating petroleum exploitation and Information technology network administration. Currently all the necessary works had been completed and all activities of the Contest were readied as planned.

Mr. Vu Duy Hao reported the organization of the Contest

This Contest did not limit the contestant’s age, the oldest contestant was 56 years old from PVDrilling, the youngest contestant was 21 years old from PVMTC; the profession with the highest number of registration was Automation with 34 contestants; the unit with the highest number of contestants was Vietsovpetro and PV GAS with 34 contestants. All contestants had been chosen carefully from their unit, they were chosen from the vocational contest at facility-level to become the unit representatives to participate in the Contest.

Speaking at the Contest opening ceremony, Mr. Do Chi Thanh, Deputy general of PVN, Head of Contest Organizing Committee emphasized that after 5 organizing times, the Petroleum vocational contest had become a festival for professional activities, occupational skills, it was an opportunity for workers to exchange, learn from experiences, improve their specialized qualifications, skills and tried to become good engineers, high-level technical workers in petroleum industry. This contest was also a tradition of many fire seekers, a wonderful business beauty, it was a festival to honor the golden hands of petroleum workers.

In hope that the Petroleum vocational contest VI proceeded smoothly and successfully, Mr. Do Chi Thanh requested the Organizing Committee, Sub-vocational divisions, Jury and all contestants participating in the contest strictly complied with the regulations, statutes of the Contest. Particularly, contestants must try to utilize their abilities, specialties, professional skills and innovation to complete their test with the highest score.

On the occasion of Vietnam Teacher’s day (20 November), on behalf of PVN leaders, Mr. Do Chi Thanh would like to send to the teachers, employees, workers and officers who had and had been working in education field at the Group the best wishes for health, happiness, completed their respective tasks successfully and continued to contribute greatly to education.

The Petroleum vocational contest was held the first time by PVN in 2009, every 2 years for the purpose of promoting the learning movement, studying science, promoting innovations, improving technologies and streamlining production, training professional skills in petroleum worker team; creating opportunities for workers, officers and employees, experts in the industry to exchange, study and apply knowledge to actual production progress; honoring workers with knowledge and highly proficient skills … The contest was also an opportunity to discover, recruit and foster young contestants with outstanding professional skills to participate in the National and ASEAN profession contest.
